Notes |
- See father's Notes for the justification for including Thomas in this family group.
When sons William and Edward and daughter Emma were baptised Thomas's abode was given as Hammersmith, occupation labourer.
On 5 April 1827 Thomas Minter was a witness at the Old Bailey in the case of Christopher Higgins and Thomas Hewett, who were indicted for stealing 18 cwt of lead worth 10 pounds from George Bedford and others on 10 March. A cart with 'Thomas Minter, Hammersmith' was found to contain the stolen lead but Thomas Minter said in evidence that he had lent the cart to Higgins. Higgins and Hewett were found not guilty.
Only a month later, on 31 May 1827, Thomas's son Walter and Thomas Hewitt were up before the Old Bailey, accused of stealing 96 lbs of lead worth 15 shillings from the roof of Elizabeth Humbert's house on 18 April. Both men were transported for 7 years.
1841 census (indexed as MINTON by Ancestry): in Bradmore, Hammersmith, Thomas Minter (61, carman) and Mary (60), both born Middlesex.
1851 census: at Braithwaites Cottages, Bradmore Lane, Hammersmith, Thomas Minter (72, carman, born Fulham) and Mary (72, born Chiswick). Also a general servant Sarah GALES, 21 and her 5 month old son William.
