  Notes	May 2010: Rosemary Andrew writes: "I always understood that Jane Lawrance's name was spelt with an 'ance' and not 'ence'. My father wrote Alfred Lawrance Minter's name in my mother's birthday book and that is how he spelt it and I belief it is spelt like that on Alfred's birth sertificate. I remember as a child, my mother telling me it was a family name and that was the correct spelling." There is conflicting evidence about this: the family appears in censuses from 1841 to 1871 and on each census, the surname is spelled Lawrence. On the other hand, the index of birth registrations is inconsistent, some of the children being registered as Lawrence, some as Lawrance. But given that Rosemary, a member of the family, believes the correct spelling is LAWRANCE, that is the spelling adopted. 1841 census: in Sholden Street, Sholden, Kent, Daniel (30, ag lab), Sarah (25), William (2) and Jane (4 months). 1851 census: in Sholden, Kent, Daniel (43, ag lab, born Sholden), Sarah (31, born Lidd (sic)), William (12, born Sholden), Jane (10, scholar), Thomas (7, scholar) and Eliza Ann (8 months, born Sholden). 1861 census: in Corn Market, Sandwich, Kent, Daniel (52, ag lab, born Sholden), Sarah (40, born Lydd), Eliza A (10, scholar, born Sholden) and Elen E (4, scholar, born Sandwich). 1871 census: in Cottage, Ozier Gardens, Worth, Kent, Daniel (64, ag lab, born Shoulden (sic)), Sarah (53, born Lydd) and Edith MINTER (granddaughter, 2, born Durlock Ash, Kent).
