  Notes	Penny Minter comments: It appears that the original spelling of the surname was Gaetz but the name for this particular line of Gates was changed prior to 1893. A note in the Gates family tree says that the name change could possibly have been around the time of a 2nd marriage. I do not know if other lines are still spelling it the original way.
