From the Midland Reporter-Telegram 1 July 2012:
Rodrick Allen Maroney, the son of Lorraine Allen Maroney and the late Harold Leroy Maroney, was born December 6, 1948 in Midland, Texas. He entered into eternal rest June 22, 2012 at the age of sixty-three years after a lengthy illness. He attended Robert E. Lee High School where he set sports records that stood unbroken for about fifteen years. He graduated from Hobbs High School in Hobbs, New Mexico with the class of 1968, where he made All District, All State, and The All Stars in football. He signed a 'letter of intent' to receive a scholarship and play football for Oklahoma University. Due to a severe injury to his right arm prior to his All Star game, he was unable to fulfill the terms of the scholarship. Later he attended New Mexico Highlands University and then Tarleton State University on scholarships. After college he was a Mud Engineer in the oil industry in West Texas and offshore in Louisiana and the Gulf area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all sports with fervor. He had the blessing of many loving friends; some he thought of as brothers, especially Dr. Dale Mansfield, who was always offering loving support along with his wife, Scottie and children, Tanya and Adam. Rick had abundant faith in God and next to God; He reserved his greatest love for his only child, Kyleigh, of whom he was very proud. He was very loving and protective of his family. He is survived by his daughter, Kyleigh Maroney Griffin; his mother; one brother, Russ Maroney and wife, Elizabeth; one sister, Cassaundra Gish and husband, Ed; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His father and sister, Tracy Maroney preceded him in death. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
