Alfred was a stoker in the Royal Navy between 24 February 1903 and 21 March 1919, service number 303046. He served on several ships and met his death by falling overboard whilst with HMS Galatea.
The Times (London, England), Thursday, Apr 03, 1919; pg. 21; Issue 42065 published a Roll of Honour which included "H. M. Ships, killed (accidentally). Minter A E, Sto. 1st Cl., 303046 (Ch.)."
The Commonwealth War Graves Commision website records that Alfred is remembered in Greenwich Cemetery, Screen Wall 1 "C" B. 1078. At the time of Alfred's death his wife lived at 1 Caletock Road, Greenwich.
