  Notes	1921 census: a very strange entry (because there is no head of the household): at 11, Bank Road, Ipswich, Suffolk: Alice DOWNEY (daughter, 22y 0m, single, born Sturmer, Suffolk, printers assistant at Messres Watson Bros Printers atc, Tower Rampart, Ipswich), Frank DOWNEY (son, 19y 4m, single, born Haverhill, Suffolk, miller at Cranfield Bros, Dock Roller Mills, Ipswich) and Mildred DOWNEY (niece, 23y 3m, single, born Haverhill, Suffolk, waitress at J Lyons & Coy, caterers, London). Frank Downey signed the form. Missing from the 1921 census is the mother of Alice and Frank, Annie Maria. According to Frank's declaration in 1923 (see below), his mother was living at 11 Bank Road. So why didn't she appear on the census form? Frank DOWNEY, engineer, 21 of 11 Bank Road, Ipswich departed Liverpool on 11 May 1923 on the "Montclare" bound for Quebec, Canada. Declaration of Passenger to Canada by Frank Edward Downey, aged 21 on the "Montclare" en route to Windsor Ontario. An engineer, born Haverhill. Coming to Canada "to make my home". Going to stay with brother W Downey in Windsor, Ontario. Nearest relative in England, mother Anna Maria Downey of 11 Bank Road, Ipswich, Suffolk. 1939 Register: 45 Brunswick Road, Ipswich C.B., Suffolk DOWNEY, Frank E born 25 Feb 1902, widower, maintenance electrician --- 2 closed records --- BLACKBURN, Jean born 12 Sep 1918, single, housekeeper NETHERCLIFT, Raymond V born 27 Oct 1927, at school.
