| Notes |
- The following was written by Joseph's grandson Kenneth George Minter and is reproduced here with Ken's permission.
“Gladys married Joseph Martin MINTER on 30 Mar 1915 at Wauchope Methodist Church (Largest closest town being Port Macquarie). They had 9 children (Joseph George - 1916, being my father). Minter Exchange shows 10 children but I was always told that Malcolm Peter Minter was born to one of dad's sisters (which one not known to me) and he took the Minter name and was raised by Gladys. (Not verified) I did however meet him a number of times when I was a child).
Joseph left the marital home on 15 Aug 1933 with another women and Gladys was left with all the children except 1 female who reportedly went with Joseph. Gladys soon moved to Main Road, Warners Bay and Joseph (my father) being the elder boy became the family's main bread winner.
Gladys continued to raise the children alone and in 1938-39 sought and was granted a Divorce from Joseph Martin at Newcastle. See notes below:-
MINTER v MINTER (Extract from Newcastle Morning Herald - year unknown).
A mother of 9 children Mrs Gladys May CHARLTON of Main Road, Warners Bay, was the petitioner in a divorce action seeking a dissolution of her marriage with Joseph Minter. Mrs Minter said she married Minter at Wauchope Methodist Church on 30 March 1915. There were 9 childrenof the marriage. Her husband left her on the 15 August, 1933. He was a coalcarter. She said that 3 months prior to the date he left a Jean HAMPTON came to board with the family. On 15 August, Minter, Mrs Hampton and one of the children went out together and did not return and she discovered their clothes had gone. She had seen Minter since then but he refused to return to her. They had not lived together since 1933. A DECREE NISI was granted.
Gladys never remarried.”
