- Although Albert John's birth date apparently appears on his birth certificate as 4 May 1889, he always celebrated his birthday on 28 April. John Gordon Minter thinks that the birth may have been recorded later and therefore incorrectly.
Enlisted on 4 December 1915 to the RFA at age 26 yrs 210 days, of 23 Dorset Street, Hudderfield, a stonemason. Had previously served in the North Staffordshire Regiment. Next of kin Mary Elizabeth, same address, wife - married on 17 August 1912 at Congregational Chapel, Harrogate. Child Elsie Winifred born 9 November 1914.
Served in France in 1917 and wounded in the leg. Gunner no. 204497. Discharged in 1919 and awarded a pension of 5s.6d. for 52 weeks from 19 February 1919 as a result of 20% disabilty arising from his wound. Transferred to the Z Reserve.
A stonemason of 13 Aspley Place, Huddersfield in 1913.
In 1920, a foreman stonemason of 23 Dorset Street, Birkby, Huddersfield.
In 1928, a foreman builder of Word View Heathdayle Avenue, Birkby, Huddersfield.
