  Notes	Papers relating to Thomas's service record are at ancestry.com (WW1 pension claims). They show that for some reason Thomas signed up under an alias, Thomas FULLER (and at one point even gave his next-of-kin as his father, Harry FULLER). However there's no doubt that these papers relate to this Thomas Alfred Minter. Thomas enlisted into the The Kings Liverpool Regiment on 19 May 1915, aged 19, an engineer's mate of 84 Orbain Road, Fulham. He was posted to France in September 1915 and was there for nearly a year. He was discharged on 19 September 1916 after 1 year 125 days' service as no longer fit for war service; his intended address was 154 Lillie Road, Fulham London (on one document this address is crossed out and replaced by a Hammersmith address) and his trade was engineer's mate. The cause of Thomas's discharge was weak eyes (strabismus convergent): a medical report notes that a shell burst in front of Thomas and he was blind for some minutes; Thomas first reported his eyesight problem in Poperinge, Belgium; the lasting effect was 'almost complete blindness' and was assessed to be permanent. Thomas was awarded a pension in February 1917 of 12/6 a week but a later medical report in 1918 said 'there is no disability due to service' and the pension ceased.
