  Notes	The following probably refers to John (Cobham is only a couple of miles from Luddesdown, where John lived): 1871 census: at Jenkins Farm, Cobham, Kent, Kent, John LESTER (unmarried, 20, farm servant, born Cambridge). 1881 census: at 30 Rural Vale, Northfleet, Kent (all LESTER), John (head, married, 31, labourer in cement works, born Luddesdown, Kent), Mary Ann (wife, married, 25, born Lambeth, Essex), Sarah Ann (daughter, 2, born Snodland, Kent) and Robert (son, 2 weeks, born Northfleet). Also Robert CROWHURST (boarder, unmarried, 28, labourer in cement works, born Meopham, Kent). The 2 week-old son Robert was actually registered as CROWHURST, with mother's maiden name as SAVILLE. I'm assuming the father was Robert CROWHURST, not John LESTER. 1891 census: at 147 Dover Road, Northfleet, Kent, John LESTER (lodger, married, 41, general labourer, born Cambridgeshire). John's wife and children were living with Robert CROWHURST - see his Notes. 1901 census: at 147 Dover Road, Northfleet, Kent, John LESTER (boarer, single (sic), 52, carman, born Cambridge, Cambs). John's death was probably that registered, aged 55, at Strood RD (which covers Northfleet) in Q3 1904. The associated burial record helps to confirm that this was John's death. Within a few weeks of John's death, Mary Ann, now his widow, married Robert CROWHURST.
