  Notes	Familysearch.org has William christened on 25 October 1818 at Butley, Suffolk. 1861 census: in Stonebridge Road, Capel St Andrew, Suffolk, William FULCHER (42, ag lab, born Capel), Maryan FULCHER (39, born Hollesley), Harriet FULCHER (14, scholar), Robert FULCHER (14, ag lab), John FULCHER (12, ag lab), George FULCHER (10, ag lab), Arthur FULCHER (7, scholar), Maryan FULCHER (5, scholar) and Margeret FULCHER (2). All the children were born in Capel. William died in 1866 and his widow married Aaron COLLINGS in Q3 1870. See Aaron's Notes for further census details. October 2009: Stella Herbert writes: William Foulcher was in Ipswich Gaol in 1850 serving 10 days hard labour for refusing to maintain his family. The prison record is quite detailed even down to the cut on his finger, all his clothes, the smock frock and gaiters of the farm labourer. And 2 handkerchiefs!! I would have expected him to use his sleeve! Subsequently, I was told, he lost the sight of an eye as a result of being hit by a thunderbolt. I thought at first he was a drunken layabout, but I noticed ( and would dearly love to recheck the prison record) that several other men from the tiny hamlet of Capel St. Andrew were also in prison with him. Agricultural wages were so low at the time that possibly they were staging some sort of protest although I suppose if they were in gaol any longer the parish would have had to support the families even more. But he did die of liver problems indicating booze!
