MARGARET RUTH MOORE GLEASON, 70, of Tomball, Texas passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 2, 2007.
Margaret was born March 21, 1937 in Pine Forrest, Texas to Marion Eugene Moore and Doris (Minter) Moore.
Better known as "Honey" to her five grandchildren, Margaret graduated high school in Robstown, Texas, received her Bachelors in Education Degree from Southwest Texas State University, where she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and she earned her Masters in Education degree from Sam Houston State University.
On February 23, 1957 she married V. T. "Tommy" Gleason, a Texas cattleman who was a Life Member and cattle judge for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. They were happily married for 42 years until Tommy passed away on February 24, 1999.
Margaret enjoyed a long, successful career in elementary school education, first as a teacher and then almost three decades as an elementary school principal in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, including Holbrook, Lamkin, Yeager and Copeland elementary schools.
Margaret was listed among the Outstanding Young Women of America (1970) and Notable Women of Texas (1984-85).
After retiring from Cy-Fair ISD in 1998, Margaret remained very involved in education, working with the AVID Center of The University of Texas.
In honor of Margaret's professionalism, long service and dedication to elementary education, Cy-Fair ISD honored her in 1999 by opening Margaret Moore Gleason Elementary School.
A lifelong Methodist, Margaret had most recently been a member of Tomball United Methodist Church.
Margaret is survived by daughter Julie Gleason Pye and husband Chuck of College Station; daughter Terri Gleason Brooke and husband Greg of Tomball; and stepson V. R. "Randy" Gleason and wife Karen of Missouri City. She is survived by her sister Ruby Sue Moore Morrow of San Antonio, by her sister Marian Moore Faucett and husband Jim of Houston, and by her brother-in-law Pat Gleason and wife Billie Carlin Gleason of Glendale, MO. Margaret is survived by five grandchildren whom she adored: Kendall and Kyle Pye; and Lauren, Lindsey and Hunter Brooke. She is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and by an uncountable number of close personal friends and
professional peers, all of whom enjoyed Margaret's warmth, enormous energy and outgoing, entertaining personality.
Margaret will be interred next to her husband Tommy at Pebble Grove Cemetery near the family ranch located in Maysfield, Milam County, Texas. The family will receive visitors at Klein Funeral Home - Tomball on Friday, August 3, 2007 beginning at 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Klein Funeral Home Tomball, Pastor Jerry House, Jr. of Christ United Methodist Church of College Station officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (www.mdanderson.org), Margaret Moore Gleason Elementary PTO or Cypress Fairbanks Educational Foundation, PO Box 1698, Cypress, TX, 77410-1698, c/o Marie Holmes.
