    Notes 
    • James was probably the son of James & Mary PICKFORD, born in Macclesfield on 22 November 1810 and baptised there on 6 January 1811.

      He appears to have had three sons. When the first two were baptised, James was a cowkeeper. By the time George was baptised in 1839, James had become a publican. He seems to have died at only 35 and was buried in 1839. His widow re-married and appeared with Edward MELLOR, her new husband, in the 1841 census, but James and Catherine's two surviving sons weren't with Mr & Mrs Mellor, they were instead living with a schoolmaster in Gawsworth, Cheshire. Interestingly, two CHALLINOR boys were also at there (Challinor was Catherin'e maiden name).
