  Notes	James was commonly known as King Hedley. His interesting and varied life has been documented by Helen Connell, so just the essentials are shown here. His first marriage took place in May 1880 in Eureka, Nevada, to Lizzie McMARTIN. The marriage didn't last long. In 1884 King married the actress Eleanor Rodgers (aka Eleanor Moretti). That marriage didn't last long either - at the time of the UK 1901 census, King was in London (see below). King married again in 1902 to Mary Harris EDMONDS and appeared with her in the 1911 census. At the time of the 1900 US Federal Census James's first wife Lizzie was living as a widow in San Francisco. 1880 United States Federal Census: in Eureka, Eureka, Nevada, King HEDLEY (28, works at refinery, born Australia, father & mother born England). 1901 UK census: at 17 Woburn Place, Bloomsbury, London, King HEDLEY (boarder, single, 49, financial agent on own account, born Australia). 17 Woburn Place was occupied by the LESTER family, 10 boarders and 4 servants. 1911 UK census: at Sunnycroft, Horley, Surrey (8 rooms), King HEDLEY (head, 59, married, actor, born Gippsland, Victoria, Australia) and Mary Harris HEDLEY (wife, 52, married 8 years, born St James, London). Also a general domestic servant Elizabeth Ann SMITH, 31 and a gardener Albert Edward Young, 17.
