- 1881 census: aged 14, a farm servant, living at Port Farm, Upstreet, Chislet, Kent with Thomas Hogben and family, a farmer of 205 acres.
No trace in the 1891 census and no trace of marriage to Harriet Phoebe COBLEY. They probably didn't marry: Harriet Phoebe COBLEY married Alfred John BUSH in Q4 1897 and appeared with him, and son William James, in the 1911 census - see Alfred John BUSH's Notes.
1901 census: William (tunnel miner, age given as 30, birthplace as Plymouth) was boarding with the Arscott family (his future in-laws) at 34 Notte Street, St Andrews Plymouth.
1911 census: at 3 Bolland's Court, Whitefriars, Chester (5 rooms), William (head, 42, married, sewerage works foreman, sewereage contractors, worker, born 'some part of Kent'), Maud (wife, 31, married 10 years, 5 children, 4 living, 1 died, born Plymouth), Clara May (daughter, 8, born Plymouth), Richard Percy (son, 4, born Plymouth), William Frederick (son, 23/4 born Plymouth) and Stanley Clifford (son, 1½, born Plymouth).
William Minter marked.
Worked on the construction of the Elham Valley Railway line to Folkestone. An excavator at Margate in 1891. Worked on the Morden tube railway, worked at Plymouth between 1901 and 1909 as an open miner and as a ganger on sewer works and road mains before moving to Chester in 1911 on similar works and later to Olney, Bucks by 1913 where he was employed on laying the main sewer through the High Street. Suffered a stroke in 1913 and had to retire from working.
1921 census: at 22 Weston Road, Olney, Bucks (all MINTER), Maud (head, 41y 10m, widowed, born Plymouth, home duties), Richard P (son, 14y 3m born Plymouth, general farm labouree with Mr Houghkins, farmer at Clifton Raynes), William Frederick (son, 13 born Plymouth, whole time school), Stanley C (son, 11y 10m, born Plymouth, whole time school), Sidney J (son, 9y 9m, born Chester, whole time school), Dollie M (daughter, 7y 10m, born Olney, Bucks, whole time school) and Lilian M (daughter, 5y 10m, born Olney, Bucks, whole time school).
