Whoever was Elsie's mother, it appears that at the time of the 1911 census, Elsie was a pupil at a school (Row Hill?) in Chertsey, Surrey . Her age is shown as 13 and her birthplace as Stamford Hill, London (which is in the Hackney area). Elsie would by 1911 be an orphan, regardless of whether her mother was Lydia (Carter), who died in 1900, or Ellen Rhoda Minter.
