- In 1851, living at Blacksole Herne, a miller, with uncle and aunt.

Critically injured in accident with horse and wagon at Wingham on the 22 December 1860 with Harrison Wellard who was killed. Betty Cole (September 2009) has provided the following transcript of the inquest, which was reported in the Kentish Gazette on Tuesday 25 December 1860:
WINGHAM
FATAL WAGGON ACCIDENT - On Saturday afternoon last, a respectable jury assembled at the Anchor Inn, in the parish of Wingham, empanelled under the direction of the county coroner, Mr. T.T. Delasaux, for the purpose of investigating the circumstances attendant upon the death of Harrison Wellard, a farm servant, who was killed the previous afternoon by a waggon passing over his body, near the spot where the inquest was holden. The jury having duly viewed the body, a witness was called, who deposed to the facts connected with the occurrence. From his statement it appeared that about three o'clock on Friday afternoon, a waggoner named Wm. Minter, in the employ of a farmer of the neighbourhood, was driving a waggon, drawn with three horses, along Wingham Street, assisted by his mate, Harrison Wellard, (the deceased), when something attracted the attention of the horses, and they suddenly started off and galloped along the road at a furious rate. The two men did all they could to arrest the progress of the animals under their charge, one of them clinging to the head of the horse in the rods; and the other holding the leader in the same way, but without any effect - onward the horses dashed, completely dragging the waggoner and mate along with them, until at length the two men fell to the ground from shear exhaustion, and the wheels of the waggon passed over both of them. - Wellard was taken up in a senseless state and died almost immediately afterwards from the injuries he had received, and Minter was so seriously hurt as to necessitate his removal as quickly as possible to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital at Canterbury, when the requisite medical aid was rendered; but he now lies in a very critical state, very slight hopes being entertained of his ultimate recovery. - Under these circumstances, the jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death".
