  Notes	1851 census: at Silver Street, Bredgar, Kent, John (37, farmer of 317 acres (10 men)), Sarah (27) and Sarah (1). One house servant. The Sarah was John's first wife Sarah BING. Appeared in the 1852 Post Office Directory of Kent (Kelly's) as John Minter, farmer, Bredgar. Appeared in the Directory of Kent, Melville & Co, 1858 as John Minter, farmer, Snagbrook Farm, Hollingbourne. 1861 census: at Long Brook Farm, Hollingbourne, Kent, John (47, farmer), Sarah M (25), Sarah (11, scholar), Ann (9, scholar), John (1, scholar [!]) and Thomas O (7 months). The Sarah was John's second wife Sarah Mary ROPER. In 1865 John's profession was given as registrar; in 1867, 1868 and 1869, relieving officer; in 1871, 1874 and 1877, labourer. 1871 census: at Fairbourne Heath, Ulcombe, Kent, John (57, late relieving officer), Sarah M (35), John (11), Thomas Oliver (10), Alice (7), Emiliy M (5), Norah F C (3), Eveline (1) and Ruth G (1 month). 1881 census: in Honey Pot Road, Bilsington, Kent, John (69, farmer out of business), Sarah M (45), John (29 (sic), clerk out of employ), Ann (21, domestic servant), Emily M (16, domestic servant), Evelyne M (12, scholar) and William (4, scholar). Daughter Ruth Gertrude (10) was staying at 1 Stone Cross, Mersham with John Terry (32, waggoner) and his family. Daughter Alice was 18, a domestic servant in High Street, Orpington, Kent. 1891 census: at a cottage in Stowting, Kent, John (78, retired farmer), Sarah M (55), John (31, seedsman) and Thomas O (30, exhibitor of magic lantern). Daughter Alice (age given as 24!) was a cook at 13 The Lees, Folkestone. 1901 census: in East Brabourne, Kent, John (88, living on own means), Sarah (66) and grandson George B GREEN (1, born Stowting). George was probably the son of John Minter junr. and Mary Emily Green - see John junr.'s Notes. This was an extraordinary family. Over the period from 1850 to 1877, John and his two Sarahs had 15 children. By the time the last child was born, in 1877, John would have been about 64. He went on to live to 90.
