He was the son of the late James Silas and Rosa Pace Minter of Henry County, VA. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Mr. Minter was the widower of Louise T. Minter and Joan Stout Minter. Born August 6, 1909 in Henry County, he is survived by six children, Mr. H. Daniel Minter Jr., Lexington, KY., Mrs. Patricia M. White, Lynchburg, Ms. Rosemary M. Fox, Wadsworth, Ohio, Mrs. Ellen T. Boone, Martinsville, Mr. Timothy V. Minter, Amherst and Mrs. Louise F. Dudley, Lynchburg; five stepchildren, Mrs. Paula S. Bolling, Blacksburg, Mr. Terry P. Stout, Martinez, GA., Mrs. Judy S. Simmons, Montgomery, AL., Mrs. Diane S. Dry, Durham, NC., and Mrs. Barbara S. Parker, Greensboro, NC.; 31 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Ray Minter was a member of S. Josephs Catholic Church, Martinsville. His dedication to the Knights of Columbus was well known. His service with the K of C began at St. Andrew's Council in New Jersey in 1948. In 1953, he moved to Lynchburg, Va. and transferred his membership to Holy Cross Council #595. He became known all over the state for his work with the organization, holding numerous K of C offices, becoming part of Virginias K of C history. He served on all chairs of Holy Cross Council 595 third degree, held two terms as District Deputy for the VA State Council. Mr. Minter was instrumental in organizing Councils 6143 Danville, Va., 6538 Martinsville, Va., 6695 Bristol, Va. and 6747 Blacksburg, Va. He was a charter member of Councils 6143 Danville and 6538 Martinsville. In the fourth degree, he was Charter Navigator and served two terms for the Holy Cross Assembly. After retiring, he served the Martinsville Council as advocate and trustee. In addition, he was an active member of the Patrick Henry Assembly of Martinsville/Danville. In 1953, he purchased Fairview Hardware, Lynchburg, Va. and later established and operated for 20 years Sealtite Storm Window Company before retiring to Martinsville, Va. in 1971. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at McKees Funeral Home, Martinsville, Va. A mass of the resurrection will be conducted by Father Vincent Fitzpatrick of Sterling, NJ at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Martinsville Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Minter Family Cemetery, Greenhill Dr., Martinsville, Va.The Roanoke Times, (VA)Date: July 5, 1995(edited) - dreynolds Added: Sep. 26, 2011
