- The Register entry for daughter Sarah Margaret's baptism gives the address as Strand and William's occupation as shell fishmonger.
1841 census: at 357 Strand, St Clement Danes, London Wm KNIGHT (35, shell fishmonger, not born Middlesex), Sarah KNIGHT (35, born Middlesex), Wm CROUCH (25, S.L., born Middlesex), James ORAM (20, male servant, not born Middlesex), Sarah ORAM (25, female servant, not born Middlesex), Ann KNIGHT (20, female servant, not born Middlesex), Margaret SMITH (15, female servant, not born Middlesex), James ANGEL (30, independant, not born Middlesex) and Johanah ANGEL (35, independant, born Middlesex).
Daughter Sarah Margaret not found.
1851 census: at 357 Strand, St Clement Danes, London William KNIGHT (49, shell fishmonger, born Clawton, Dover), Sarah KNIGHT (48, shell fishmonger's wife, born St Giles (Lincolns Inn Fields), Sarah Margt. KNIGHT (daughter, 15, scholar, born St Martin in the Fields, London), Maria A ---iend, (unmarried, 21, house servant, born Caher, Ireland), Ann BEDDLE (unmarried, 23, house servant, born South M----, Devon), Ann LAYSILE (?) (unmarried, 22, house servant, born Northumberland), Joseph SHAGH (?) (unmarried, 26, shopman, born Clerkenwell, London), George SULLIVAN (unmarried, 15, errand boy, born Windsor) and Henry MILLER (unmarried, 22, carman, born Norridge).Wm CROUCH (25, S.L., born Middlesex), James ORAM (20, male servant, not born Middlesex), Sarah ORAM (25, female servant, not born Middlesex), Ann KNIGHT (20, female servant, not born Middlesex), Margaret SMITH (15, female servant, not born Middlesex), James ANGEL (30, independant, not born Middlesex) and Johanah ANGEL (35, independant, born Middlesex).
1861 census: William having died, his widow Sarah KNIGHT (58, born Lincolns Inn) was living at 357 Strand as the aunt of John SMITH (39, shellfishmonger, born Chelsea), his wife Ann and their son Albert (8) and two daughters Amelia (6) and Jessie (4). There were several other people in the house but Sarah Margaret MINTER nee KNIGHT wasn't one of them. I can't find her in the 1861 as either KNIGHT or SIMMONS. The latter name is the one she adopted for a period during the 1870s and 1880s.
1871 census: at ---- Cottages, Fulham Road, Hammersmith, Sarah KNIGHT (head, widow, 68, living on private property, born St Clement Danes), Sarah M SIMMONS (daughter, widow, 35, born St Clement Danes), Robert H BUTLER (servant, unmarried, 26, coachman) and Emma M FROFLEY (?) (servant, 19, general servant, born Chiswick).
Sarah KNIGHT evidently died in the 1870s and in 1881 Sarah Margaret was the head of household i n her own right - see her Notes.
