| Notes |
- 1901 census: at 273 Cauldwellhall Road, St Margarets, Ipswich, Samuel (28, painter) and Emily (26).
1911 census: at 182 Cauldwell Hall Road, Ipswich, Suffolk (6 rooms), Samuel (head, 39, married, threshing machine painter, engineering, worker, born Ipswich, Suffolk), Emily (wife, 37, married 14 years, 3 children all living *, born Ipswich, Suffolk) and 3 boarders, Florence WADE (10, born Ipswich, Suffolk), Wilfred BELL (3, born Ipswich, Suffolk) and Lily WOODS (20, born Ipswich, Suffolk).
Form signed Samuel Minter pp ----, Enumerator.
* no sign of any children being registered between 1895 and 1911. The identity of Florence, Wilfred and Lily is a mystery (but concerning Florence, see note after 1921 census). However, it's clear that (perhaps by adoption) Wilfred became Wilfred Ephraim Minter because a bachelor of this name married in 1929 giving his father as Samuel Minter, painter and his address as 182 Cauldwell Hall Road, Ipswich, which is where "Wilfred BELL" was living in 1911. Concerning Wilfred, see also the 1921 census below.
1921 census: at 182 Cauldwell Hall Road, Ipswich, Suffolk (all MINTER), Samuel (head, 49y 4m, married, born Ipswich, Suffolk, painter with Bennett & Snow(?), no fixed place of work), Emily (wife, 47y 5m, born Ipswich, Suffolk, home duties) and Wilfred (13y 6m, born Ipswich, Suffolk, part time school). Also Florence WICK (niece, 20y 3m, married, born Ipswich, Suffolk, home duties) and Florence's husband Ben WICK (30y 11m, married, born Suffolk, labourer with Minister of Labour at Barham).
Florence WICK was originally Clara Florence WADE, born 24 September 1900. She married Benjamin J E WICK in Q1 1921 (Ipswich 4a/1980). According to the 1901 census, where she appeared as Clara F, her father was George WADE (born Rushmere) and her mother, Caroline WADE (born Ipswich). Caroline was Caroline WARREN when she married George in Q1 1897 (Ipswich 4a/995). None of this has helped me to understand why, in the 1921 census, Florence WICK was described as Samuel Minter's niece. The link could be on Samuel's wife's side but I haven't investigated that possibility.
