- From an obituary at findagrave.com (also at www.feigumfh.com):
Don Hunsley, 62, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday July 8, 2006.
Don was born the 4th child to Gilbert and Eleanor (Anderson) Hunsley on January 12, 1944 in Denver, CO. They moved to South Dakota in 1947. He graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in 1963.
Immediately following high school he farmed for Kenny Stewart, then farmed for his brothers Leonard and Duane. In the early 70's Don was a milk man for Class Clay; he then went to work as a truck driver for Oahe Implement in the fall of 1976. In the early 90's, he continued with Moodie Implement as a small engine mechanic until his death. Don also worked at the Texaco Quick Shop on Euclid during the 80's and early 90's which was a convenient way to keep an eye on his teenagers while they "cruised Euclid".
He also served his country for 7 years with the Army National Guard from 1962-1969.
Don married Nancy Rempfer on May 14, 1966; they had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. He devoted his entire life to his family, building his own home on the homestead near where he grew up, which is where he and Nancy resided until his death.
Early in his marriage, Don and his brothers had a stock car that they raced at circle tracks all over South Dakota until the early 80's. Recently, his love for racing came full circle when the Hunsley family purchased the "Tijuana Taxi", a '76 Chevy Chevette drag car. His passion for the game of pool was not only evident in his own involvement, but also his involvement in the youth pool league organization for many years. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent many hours on the river, always waiting for a bigger fish to snag his lure. Don considered everyone a friend, and always had time for chit-chatting no matter what he was doing.
There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his family and friends and was always ready for a get-together. His children and grandchildren were the center of his life as he never missed an activity, whether at home or away. He coached pee wee baseball for both Jim and Ty. He couldn't resist the opportunity to coach from the sidelines at his grandkid's sporting events whether it was soccer, basketball, football, or softball. No matter which way the call went, the refs always knew Grandpa's view.
Don is survived by his wife Nancy of Pierre, daughter Kathy Falcon (Ernesto) and their children Kara, Travis and Ty, all of Pierre, son Jim Hunsley of Rapid City, and daughter Becky Bear (Ryan) of Beresford and their daughter Aerial; mother Eleanor Hunsley, sister Lilla May, and brothers Leonard, Duane (Diana), Lavern, Raymond, Dale (Kathy), and Mark (Betty); sister in law JoAnne Amsden; 11 nieces; 11 nephews; and 36 great nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his father Gilbert, a nephew Scott Hunsley, his mother and father in law Alvin and Gertrude Rempfer, sister in law Kristie Rempfer, and brother in law Mark Rempfer.
Interment at Riverside Cemetery, Pierre.
