    Notes
    • The 1826 Essex Poll Book, Borough of Maldon, has an entry for George Minter, labourer of Rochford. (Source Ancestry.com, UK, Poll Books and Electoral Registers, 1538-1893). This entry is thought to relate to this George Minter.

1841 census (indexed as MINKE by ancestry.com): in Church End, Paglesham, Essex, George (50, shopkeeper), Elizabeth (50), Thomas (12) and Rebecca (10), Also a number of children with the surname MILLS: Willm (20), Mary (15), Jane (14), Henry (11) and James (7). These were probably Elizabeth's children from her previous marriage - when George and Elizabeth married in 1840 George was a widower and Elizabeth was a widow. It's possible that the James MILLS whose death was registered in Q3 1838 at Rochford (12/130 or 150) was Elizabeth's first husband. The children listed in the 1841 census were probably from that first marriage, which would explain why the marriage of daughter Jane was registered under the name of MILLS not Minter.
July 2012: two family trees on Ancestry have Elizabeth as Elizabeth SINDALL and her marriage in 1811 to James MILLS. Both trees include a list of 7 children. I haven't checked this information but have imported it as is.

The fact that George was married to someone else before marrying Elizabeth in 1840, explains how the two children shown in 1841 with the surname MINTER were born between 1829 and 1831. No trace of a first marriage has been found on the IGI (but see note of July 2012 below). A Susan Minter's death was registered in Rochford in Q4 1837 (12/124).

October 2009: it looks as if there was at least one other child from George's first marriage, Sarah, who when she married in 1851 gave her father as George Minter, licenced victualler. See Sarah's record for details, including an 1851 census record that gave a Sarah, aged 24, born Rochford, Essex.
There may also have been another child, William Minter, who along with Rebecca Minter witnessed Sarah's marriage, but no other details are known.

July 2012: examination at SEAX of the Rochford parish registers has made the situation a lot clearer, although not completely. George's first wife was evidently Susanna TUTTLEBY - they married at St Andews, Rochford on 2 March 1813. In the years following they had 10 children.
It's also fairly obvious from the parish register that although George lived in Paglesham, he originated in Rochford, the son of Edward Minter. All records that in July 2012 appeared in the "Paglesham family" have been moved to the "Rochford family".

Appeared in the 1845 Kelly's Post Office Directory of the six home counties as George Minter, 'Punchbowl' and grocer, Paglesham, Rochford.

1851 census: now a widow, Elizabeth (60) lived at the White Horse Inn with her daughter Jane ROBINSON (23) and her husband James ROBINSON (23, victualler). They had a lodger, James Kirby (59).

1861 census (indexed as MINTA by ancestry.com): aged 71, an invalid, Elizabeth still lived with her daughter at her son-in-law's grocer's shop in Paglesham.

1871 census: Elizabeth (80) was still with her daughter and son-in-law, now a carpenter in Church End, Paglesham. James's niece Sarah J THREADGOLD (23, unmarried, shop woman) was also there.

http://pubcensus.co.uk/essexpubs/Paglesham/puncbowl.aspx has the following from various directories, showing the owners/tenants of the Punch Bowl Inn, Paglesham:
      1848/George Minter/Victualler/../../White's
      1851/Mrs. Elizabeth Minter/Grocer/../../Post Office
      1852/Mrs. E. Minter/../../../Kelly's
Another website (http://www.historyhouse.co.uk/placeP/essexp01b.html) reports from Whites Directory of 1848 that there was another Minter in business in Paglesham, James Minter, shopkeeper. It's not know who he was, possibly he was Elizabeth (Mills)'s son (see 1841 census).

Buried at Rochford, aged 57, of Paglesham.
