  • Notes  Married:
    • Married by licence. George Austin Minter, 24, bachelor, wholesale furniture maker of 26 Earlham Grove, Forest Gate, London E, father Walter John Minter, patentee. Janet Walker, 33, spinster of 128 Sinclair Road, West Kensington, father Thomas Walker, stuff merchant. Both signed full names. Witnesses Reginald Holmes Walker and W J Minter.

George and Janet appear to have gone through two marriage sevices. Graham Minter has two marriage cerificates and there are two marriage registrations.
The first marriage took place on 23 July 1914 at Fulham Register Office. The witnesses have no obvious family relationship to the couple. The marriage is in the BMD index in Q3 1914 Fulham 1a/784.
The second marriage took place at St Matthew Church, Hammersmith - see above. The marriage is in the BMD index in Q4 1914 Fulham 1a/680.
      Graham Minter comments as follows:
the question of George Austin's two marriage certificates, I understand that, when a couple marry first in a Register Office and later in a church, the minister is not supposed to record the second wedding in the civil register, which suggests that either (a) he made a mistake or (b) he was not told that they had already married in a register office.
