Notes |
- 1841 census: at Chalford Hill, Bisley, Stroud, Gloucestershire, Charles (25, railway labourer) and Elizabeth (20), both not born Gloucestershire.
February 2017: the enhanced GRO birth index gives the mother's maiden name of the George MINTER whose birth was registered in Q1 1848 in Settle as EMBURY. There's no indication of the father's name (the birth certificate would show it) and no indication of what became of this George. But for the time being I'm assuming that he was Charles & Elizabeth's son and that he died sometime before 1853, when they had a son named George.
George could have been in Settle working on the railway, although the famous Settle-Carlisle line was not built until the 1870s.
1851 census (image in poor condition): in New Yarmouth, Tintwistle, Cheshire, Charles (36, rail labourer), Elizabeth (30), Charles (9), Mary Ann (7), Henry (5), Emma (10(?) months).
1861 census: at 3 Wyndham Road, Rotherhithe, London, Charles (45, excavator), Elizabeth (42), Charles (19, excavator), Mary Ann (17, needle work), Henry (15, excavator), Emma (10, scholar), George (8, scholar), Harriet (6, scholar), James (3) and Elizabeth (1).
1871 census: at 8 Commo Street, Rotherhithe, London, Charles (57, labourer), Elizabeth (52), Charles (29, labourer), Henry (25, labourer), Emma (20, servant), George (18, labourer), James (13), Eliza (11) and Frederick (6). Plus two lodgers.
1881 census: not found.
