Notes |
- 1851census (indexed as MENTER by ancestry.com): George (22, journeyman butcher) with the HODGES family (butchers) in Bridge village, Kent
1861 census: at 8 Wood Street, Cripplegate, London, George (32, butcher's porter), Eliza (32), Harry (3) and Elizabeth (9 months).
On 11 December 1864 three of George's children, Elizabeth Sarah (4½), George (2½) and Emma Maria (6 months) were buried. Many other young children were buried in the same month, no doubt the result of one of the epidemics which afflicted London at this time.
1871 census: still at 8 Wood Street, George (43, warehouse porter), Eliza (43), Harry (13), Harriet (5) and Eliza (1 month).
1881 census (indexed under MANTON by ancestry.com): at 26 Blunton Road, Hackney, London, George (52, warehouse porter), Eliza (52), Harry (23, commercial clerk) and a visitor, Emily Louisa JONES (22, draper's assistant, born Old Kent Road, London).
1891 census: George had died in 1885 - it looks as if Eliza may have returned to her birthplace - there was an Eliza MINTON, 63, widow, living in the Alms Houses in Bishopsteignton, Devon.
1901 census: Eliza was living in Newcousin Road, Dartmouth with her daughter Harriet and her husband John James Bartlett.
