Notes |
- John Page's census history is as follows:
1871 census: in Sprats Marsh, Great Horkesley, John Page (13) and his sister Ann Page (11) were living with his mother Eliza Dobson and step-father Daniel Dobson (qv).
1881 census: John Page was lodging in the house next to his step-parents in Brick Kiln Lane, Great Horkesley. He was shown as 23, unmarried, an agricultural labourer, born Great Horkesley.
When John married in 1890, the witnesses were Charles Dobson and Adelaide Dobson - they were John's step brother and sister, children of Daniel and Eliza Dobson.
1891 census: John (31, poulterer's assistant), his wife Mary (20, born Hampton, Essex) and Mary's son William Minter (son, 1, born Great Horkesley) were living at a house at St John's Chapel of Ease in Main Road, Great Horkesley. John's daughter Florence was living in Great Horkesley with her grandparents Daniel (61) and Eliza (53) Dobson. No marriage of John Page prior to that to Sarah Ann Mary Minter has been found: it's possible that Florence was Sarah Minter's daughter, born before she married John Page (in 1881 both John Page and Sarah Minter were living in Brick Kiln Lane, Great Horkesley). However, Sarah Minter would have to have been very young indeed to have been Florence's mother.
In 1901, John Page, a widower, was living in Woodhouse Road, Great Horkesley with three young children from his marriage to Sarah Ann Mary Minter (William Page, 11, Morris Page, 9 and Stanley Page, 7), and Florence Page, aged 18, described as 'daughter, housekeeper'
1911 census (supplied by Geoff Phillips): in Great Horkesley, John PAGE (head, 52, widower, children born alive 5, children still living 5 [these details shouldn't have been entered and have been crossed through], poultryers assistant, worker, born Frating, Essex), Florance PAGE (daughter, 27, single, house keeper, worker own acct at home, born Great Horkesley) and Stanley PAGE (son, 17, single, mill hand, worker, born Great Horkesley). The house had 4 rooms. The form was completed by John Page.
If the statement about 5 living children was accurate, one is unaccounted for.
