their son William, 16, agricultural labourer
Ephraim Minter, brother 25 , single, agricultural labourer, born Great Horkesley. He was clearly Ephraim or Ephrim MOORE, not Minter (see Hannah MOORE's Notes).

    • James's wife Hannah appears to be the daughter of Isaac and Sarah Moore.Although Sarah was evidently (per the 1881 census) born in Colchester, there is the following family in the 1861 census, at Great Horkesley:
      MOORCHRISTIAN 7M
      MOOREMMA3
      MOORHANNAH5
      MOORISAAC34
      MOORSARAH32
There is no 'e' on the surname but the names tally well.

By 1881, Sarah Moore was a widow aged 53, working as a laundress andliving in Brick Kiln Lane with her son Ephrim (sic), 20 and her grandsonFredric, 2. At the same time James, 33 and Hannah, 25, were living withtheir son William, 6 in Colchester Road, West Bergholt.

In 1891, James (age given as 41) and Hannah (age given as 33) were livingat Gulson's Farm, Boxted with William, 16 and the following:
      Ephraim, Brother (sic),25, born GH
Ruth Moore, Step sister, age not readable - could be 22
      John FARTHING, Nephew, 6
Sarah Moore Mother-in-law (visitor), age not readable - could be 60

In 1901, James, now said to be 50, and Hannah, 44, were living near theQueens Head in Boxted with William, 25 and a boarder, Charles Strutt, 54.Both James and Charles Strutt were farm horsemen.

There are some odd things about the dates and relationhips!! Oddest ofall is why Ephraim should be described as James's brother - perhaps itshould have read brother-in-law.
