    Notes
    • On Neil Minter's original chart, Lucy Minter's husband was shown as Samuel Peachly of West Bergholt, that they married on 10.6.1820 and that Samuel was buried on 5.9.1873.

I think it is more likely (based on my look at the Parish Records) that Lucy's husband was Samuel Peachey of Great Horkesley, baptised 23.12.1798, buried 19.1.1869 in GH. I also think they had 5 children:
      Daniel, bap. 17.1.1830 at GH
      Samuel, bap. 10.5.1834
      Thomas, bap. 17.7.1836
      Jonas, bap. 25.5.1838
      Mahala, bap. 18.4.1841

1851 census: in Great Horkesley, Essex, Samuel (52, carpenter), Lucy (46, wife), Daniel (21, ag lab), Samuel (16, ag lab), Thomas (14, carpenter's son), Josiah (12, carpenter's son) and Mahala (10, scholar).

I also think, based on the 1861 census (when Lucy (55) and Samuel (62) were living with Mahala (20)), that their son Daniel married an Emma (30 in 1861) and that they had two children, Emma (4) and Mahala (1). However, the IGI suggests they had several other children. [now resolved - see Daniel's Notes].

In 1871, Lucy PEACHEY (66, widow) was a 'visitor' with her son Thomas.

May 2010: email contact from Pauline Taylor, who writes:
"I have just read the Minter Story with great interest as Lucy Minter who married Samuel Peachey 10 Jun 1827 at Gt Horkesley was my 2xgreat grandmother. ..... Samuel Peachey was the son of Daniel Peachey and Ann (Pelham), he was born 05 Nov 1798 and baptised 23 Dec 1798 at Gt Horkesley, he was the village carpenter and I still have a blanket box made by him in my home. He and Lucy were both buried in the churchyard at All Saints Gt Horkesley, Samuel on 19 Jan 1869 and Lucy on 05 Sep 1874.

I grew up in Gt Horkesley where I knew the Minter family very well, Alf Minter was a lovely man who loved going to village whist drives where we often met and the children of his son Dick were also well known to me as were Dick and his wife. Somewhere I have a photograph of my parents with Dick and his wife when they were all guests at a wedding back in the 1960s."

      In a later email:
"I am more than happy to send you a copy of the photograph of Dick Minter and his wife with my parents at the wedding of the daughter of mutual friends of theirs. My mother had noted the occasion and the date on the back of the original so I have copied this. The photo shows, from the left, my father Alfred Denton Russell, my mother Annie Rosetta Russell, Dick Minter and his wife whose name I am afraid I have forgotten. Dick, who was an electrician, and his wife had three sons, Geoff, Doug and Alfred. Geoff used to work at a local Citroen dealers as a mechanic until a few years ago and my son and I used to meet him there. I knew them all well when we were children as we lived in the same road. I will try to get the photo in the post to you tomorrow, you will see that it is a laser copy.

Now that I have mentioned my son I am reminded that I ought perhaps to tell you that my late husband, Roy, was also a Minter descendant! This came as a great surprise to both him and me when he began to research his family. Edward Minter and Susanna Hawkins, married at Gt Horkesley 12 Nov 1761, were my 4xgreat grandparents and Roy's 5xgreat grandparents,
Roy found this highly amusing as it meant that I was the same generation as his father! He was descended from Edward Minter, baptized at Gt Horkesley 29 Sep 1765, who married Mary Johnson 13 Nov 1787 at Boxted Essex. Their daughter Hannah Minter, baptized 12 Mar 1797, married James Taylor on 22 Dec 1815 at Boxted and this couple were the parents of Roy's 2xgreat grandfather Robert Taylor. I, of course, am descended from Thomas Minter, baptized 22 Sep 1771 at Gt Horkesley, the youngest son of Edward and Susanna, who married (as his second wife) Mary Sadler, but you know all that better than me. All of this means that not only is my son Simon my son but he is also my cousin and his father's cousin too albeit many times removed. Very confusing!"
