    Notes
    • 1901 census: at 13 Washington Avenue, East Ham, William J (35, carpenter & joiner), Ellen J (36, born Winchester), William H F (6), Corey W * (4) and Ellen C (1). Also a boarder Robert O WARNER, 19, railway labourer, born Alton, Hants [probably a relative of Ellen J]).

1911 census (indexed under MINTON at the official 1911 census site), taken only from the index:, living in the South Stoneham, Hampshire district, William James (45), Ellen Jane (41), William 'Nerry' [Henry] Foreman (16), Percy Walter (14), Ellen Constance (11), James Bryan (8) and Charity Eudora (3 months). No mention of Corey W - perhaps died in South Africa?

It would seem that some time after 1901, William took his family to South Africa for a time (although there is a discrepancy in one of the childrens' names). The 1901 census showed a 4 year-old called Corey W Minter *, whose birth registration hasn't been found; the passenger list below includes a 10 year-old called Percy *. His birth registration hasn't been found either. The passenger list includes a fourth child, James: he would fit with a James Brian Minter registered in Q1 1903 so he has been added to William's family [Feb 2009: the addition of Brian is confirmed by the 1911 census above].

      * August 2011: this apparent mystery has been resolved by Monica Tyler. She has pointed out that 'Corey W' was a strange interpretation by the census enumerator of Percy W, and that Percy W was Percy Walter Minter (birth reg. Q4 1896, West Ham), who currently appears (wrongly) in the Fritton group. This mistake has now been corrected.

findmypast.co.uk has an outgoing passenger list for Mrs E (36), Master W (9), Master P (7), Master J (4) and Miss E (1) leaving Southampton for East London, South Africa on 28 May 1904 on the 'Gascon'.

Ancestry.com.au - UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960: arriving at Southampton on 1 September 1908 on the 'German' from East London, South Aftrica:
Mr W Jas Minter, 40, carpenter
