    Notes
    • The IGI gives Frederick's second name as William but Cliff Minter has consulted the original Parish Register for St Andrew Canterbury which confirms that the second name was VILLIERS.

1861 census: at 1 Stockwell Grove, St Mary Lambeth, London, Frederick (32, milkman) and Ellen (28).

1871 census: Frederick was staying with his brother Geary at Cannon Court, Fetcham, Surrey. Ellen, age shown as 25!, was head of a one-person household (among others) at 8 Sussex Place, Priory Grove, Lambeth. Their daughter Ellen (10) was staying with her uncle Filmer and aunt Lydia in Wood Street, Walthamstow.

From Jon Cochrane, email October 2009. Jon has obtained copies of court records which show that Frederick appeared in court twice, charged with embezzlement. On 5 June 1871 at the Adjourned General Quarter Session of the Peace at Newington his trial was postponed until the next session and he was bailed. On 27 June 1871 at the General Quarter Session of the Peace at Guildford he was sentenced to twelve calendar months hard labour and ordered to pay £10 costs.

Listed in Post Office Directory, 1880 as Frederick Villiers Minter, cowkeeper, Beal Street, North Plaistow.

1881 census (indexed under WINTER): at 1 Beale Street N, West Ham, London, Frederick (43, dairyman) and Ellen (42), together with their married daughter Ellen (19) and her husband William Henry MALTWOOD (19, plumber).

Listed in Kelly's Directory of Essex, Hertfordshire & Middlesex, 1886 as Frederick V Minter, dairyman, Beale Street, North Plaistow, London E.

1891 census: at 53 Redhill Street, St Pancras, London, Frederick (54, dairyman) and wife Rosina (37) plus step-daughter Lilly BOWLEY (6, born Poplar, London). There is no sign of Frederick's second marriage having been registered *. Lily Annie A BOWLEY's birth was registered at Poplar in Q1 1885 (1c/657); in 1901 she was living (16, cartridge stabbing) with her uncle Benjamin MOORE (34, born Greenwich) and his wife at 54 Selcroft Road, Greenwich.
Rosina's daughter Rosina (17) was a kitchen maid at Marston House Convalescent Home, Cheriton, Kent.

      * January 2008: it turns out that the second marriage, to Rosina BOWLEY, took place on 20 April 1890. See marriage notes for details from the marriage certificate. There is a discrepancy between the copy marriage certificate, which shows the groom's name as Edward Minter, and the original marriage register entry (at Ancestry.com) which shows the groom as Frederick Minter. It looks as if the person who made the copy marriage certificate made a mistake. Rosina's first husband was Charles Alfred Bowley; he died aged 34 in Q3 1885.

1901 census: no trace, and no trace of the deaths of either Frederick or Rosina.
