Notes |
- ancestry.com's collection "Canada, Ocean Arrivals (Form 30A), 1919-1924" includes a record for Charles Edward BEVINGTON, aged 21, born Cannock, who left the UK on 21 March 1924 on the SS Montcalm for Canada. His present occupation was miner but his intended occupation was 'anything'. His object in going to Canada was to settle there permanently. He had $50 with him and intended to join his brother W BEVINGTON, 1498 Howard Avenue, Windsor, Ontario. His nearest relative in the UK was his mother, at 74 Warner Street, Hightown, Manchester.
A shipping manifest (also at ancestry.com) confirms the above and shows that Charles was accompanied on the trip by Elijah Bevington, aged 24, also a miner. Their UK addrss was 46 Hednesford Road, Heath Hayes, Cannock.
Charles evidently came home again but made another trip to see his brother W Bevington, leaving Liverpool on 19 April 1930 for Quebec aboard the SS Laurentic. By then he was 27, a miner and married - his wife C Bevington lived at 91 Hill Street, Hednesford.

October 2018: Anne Wigle-Occhipinti writes:
"My mom, Barbara Bevington-Wigle, shares with me that her brother (my Uncle Kenny) would go to drink and celebrate with Uncle Charlie when he was on
Furlough with the RAF. Although my Uncle Kenny was from Canada...his roots were in Cannock...as his father worked the mines before marriage and WWI in the trenches!
My mom also said...that one of the children was Florance...and she was said to be...the girl in the wagon...maybe she lost the use of her legs??? Mom said that when she was in her late 20's...Florence had willed her 1000 dollars. My mom had never even met her...but her favorite brother was mom's father...and so she received the gift of money. That money helped...as my own father was in school to become a minister."
