    • Baptised at St Martins Birmingham as Charles Hastings the son of Henry (tailor) and Eliza WHEWAY of Fazeley Street.

      When daughter Emily was born the family was in Nelson Street West, Birmingham, Charles a brassfounder.
      In 1849 they had moved to Liverpool Street.

      Charles appears to have been counted twice in the 1851 census, once with his parents (see father's Notes) and again with his own family. The latter was hard to find as ancestry have it under WHITEWAY.

      1851 census: at 42 --- ---, Bowyer Street, Bordesly, Birmingham (all WHEWAY, all born Birmingham except Georgianna), Charles (head, [age indecipherable], tube maker), Sarah (wife, [age indecipherable]), Emily (daughter, 8, scholar), Georgianna (daughter, 3, scholar, born Oak Moor, Staffordshire) and Amelia (daughter, 1).

      1861 census: in Grove Lane, Harborne, Birmingham (all WHEWAY), Charles (head, 39, tube maker, born Birmingham), Sarah (wife, 37, beer seller, born Birmingham), Emily (daughter, 17, barmaid, born Birmingham), Amelia (daughter, 11, scholar, born Birmingham), Charles (son, 7, scholar, born Smethwick, Staffs), Sampson (son, 4, scholar, born Smethwick, Staffs) and George (son 3, scholar, born Smethwick, Staffs).

      1871 census: in Grove Lane, Smethwick, Birmingham (all WHEWAY), Charles (head, 48, beer retailer, born Birmingham), Sarah A (wife, 44, born Birmingham), Charles (son, 17, born Harborne, Staffs) and Sampson (son, 14, born Harborne, Staffs).

      1881 census: in George Road, Hay Mills, Yardley, Birmingham (all WHEWAY), Charles H (head, 59, retired publican, born Birmingham), Sarah A (wife, 57, born Birmingham) and Joseph J (son, 19, lead & glass worker, born Smethwick).

      1891 census: at 81 Reynold Street, Smethwick, Staffordshire ( both WHEWAY), Charles H (head, 69, retired brazier of tubes, born Birmingham) and Sarah A (wife, 68, born Birmingham).

      Charles died in 1897.

      1901 census: at 81 Reynold Street, Smethwick, Staffordshire, Sarah Ann WHEWAY (head, widow, 77, born Birmingham), Amelia SMITH (daughter, married, 50, born Birmingham) and Charles WHEWAY (son, widower, 48, iron puddler, born Smethwick, Staffs).
