      April 2015 - Sally Bruce comments on the above:
      "... puzzled over the absence of Samuel 1795 on the 1841 census when I first started looking at family history but assumed he was perhaps away on business? However, after your email, I went back to the census for another look. On Genes Reunited, you can see the previous page. I saw the very last entry looked as if it had faded or erased. There was a name but I could not read it, unfortunately, but it might just be the explanation. Samuel senior died 1866"

      1861 census: in Wollaston Street, Sherwood, Nottinghamshire (all HANCOCK), Samuel (head, widower, 66, retired lace maker, born Nottingham), Charlotte (daughter, 33, born Nottingham), James R (son, 27, machine smith, born Ison Green, Notts), William (son, 25, upholsterer, master employing 1 boy, born Nottingham) and Geo H (son, 21, hosier, born Hyson Green).
