      A butcher of Butchery Lane in 1838 (Topographical History and Directory of Canterbury - Stapleton & Co, 1838) and 1839 (Pigots Directory of Kent).

      1841 census: int Butchery Lane, Canterbury, (John, 47, butcher), Mary (44), William (19, painter), Thanet (17, butcher), Robert (14, butcher), Alfred (11), Mary (9), Frederick (5) and a female servant, Sarah KENNETT, 81.

      Listed as a cowkeeper of Butchery Lane in the History & Directory of the County of Kent by S Bagshaw, 1847.
      1851 census: at 101/2 Butchery Lane, St Andrews, Canterbury, John (widower, 57, dairyman), Alfred (21 tailor), Mary (18, housekeeper) and Frederick (15, boy of all work).
      Appeared in the 1852 Post Office Directory of Kent (Kelly's) as cowkeeper of Butchery Lane.
      Appeared in the 1855 Kelly's Directory as John Minter, pork butcher, Butter Market, Canterbury. Wife Lucy also listed at same address as a ladies school.
      A pork butcher and dairyman at the Buttermarket, Burgate, Canterbury in 1859 ( A Directory of Canterbury and its Suburbs (Charles Marten), 1859) .
      Appeared in the 1859 Post Office Directory of Kent (Kelly's) as dairyman of Butchery Lane.

      1861 census: at 41 Burgate Street, St Andrews, Canterbury, John (67, butcher) and wife Lucy (53, governess).
      Listed in Canterbury Poll of 1818 and 1830 a butcher of Butchery Lane, in 1832 as of St Andrews, in 1835 and 1837 as a freeman of Butchery Lane, in 1841, 1848, 1851 and 1852 as a freeman of St Andrews, in 1854 as of St Andrews, in 1855 as a freeman of St Andrews with two houses in Butchery Lane and the Buttermarket, in 1857, 1858, 1859 and 1860 as a freeman of St Andrews at the Buttermarket and in 1862 as a freeman of St Andrews. In East Kent Poll of 1837 as of Butchery Lane with property in St Pauls.
      Guardian of the poor in the 1820s. Won prizes at the Kent and Canterbury cattle shows during the 1830s.
