    Notes
    • Per Malcolm Bates, Andrew moved to South Africa in the 1950s*, lived near Johannesburg in the 1960s to 1980s and died around 1980. The National Archives of South Africa suggest Andrew's wife died in 1975 - see ref. 7221/75. 'MINTER, IRENE ELIZABETH. (BORN VINCE). SURVIVING SPOUSE ANDREW HENRY MINTER.'

      * this has been corrected by Andrew's son Norman. In February 2013 he wrote
"my father Andrew Henry Minter came to South Africa on a contract for Trinidad & General Asphalt in 1947/48 - we arrived with my mother and sister in Cape town on the 25/12/1949, as my father was keep here on working on the Diamond Mines near Alexander Bay"

Norman wrote again in June 2016:
"Andrew Henry Minter came out from the U.K in 1948 April +/- and had to work on the new buildings of the Diamond Mines in Alexander Bay, when these were complete he was brought to Johannesburg and worked on various of the Gold mines around these Transvaal as it was known on those days, he had a long time in a hospital and was off for almost a year with an appendix op. that went wrong, he worked in Johannesburg until June 1954 when he was sent to Bloemfontein to open a branch for Trinidad & General.
In December 1955 he was transferred back to Johannesburg, he retired and went to Durban where he passed away on 10th October 1991 after another operation. After my mother passed away in June 1975 he married Sylvia Mary Wieland on 21st February 1975 who is still alive and living in Durban (95 years) The following dates are not shown on the papers [ie on the Minter Exchange website] I was born on 29/11/1943 and married on the 04/10/1969 to Maria Elizabeth Oosthuisen, My sister was born on 16/01/1946 and married Ivor Fenske on 03/12/1966."

findmypast.co.uk has two Passenger Lists as follows:
'Arundel Castle' left Southampton on 25 January 1949 for South Africa, with Mr A H Minter, age 31 of 139 Churchhill Ave, Chatham, foreman, on board.
'Llanstephan Castle' left London for S&E Africa on 2 December 1949. Headed for Capetown were Mr J E Minter, 27, Master N Minter, 5, and Miss D Minter, 3. Their address in the UK was 139 Churchhill Ave, Luton, Chatham

Andrew's date of marriage is shown here as 13 November 1942, despite the facts that (a) it is shown on his daughter Doris's birth certificate as 29 September 1943 and (b) the BMD index shows that the marriage was registered in Q4 1943. The 1942 date came from Andrew's son Norman (in July 2012) who has confirmed it after talking to his sister. Norman says:
" only dates that I am aware of is 13th November 1942 and we always celebrated that day, I remember him and my mom always making fun of the incorrect date that he gave in Scotland when he registered my sister Doris who was born in Paisley. "
