      76 when he died; buried as a gentleman of Brambling Hill. Will dated 14 June 1832; proved 10 October 1833 at Canterbury Consistory Court (Consistory Court Book 70, No. 70). Enid Minter has transcribed the Will and has kindly given permission for its reproduction:

      This is the last will and testament of me Thomas Minter of Brambling Hill in the Parish of Ickham in the County of Kent, Gentleman. First I revoke and make void all former wills and testamentary papers by me at any time heretofore made I give and bequeath unto my niece Eleanor Lushington Minter daughter of my brother Henry Minter Five pounds. I give and bequeath unto Sarah Christian daughter of Henry Christian of Deal, Grocer, £5. I give and bequeath unto Sarah Christian daughter of Benjamin Christian of Deal aforesaid, Brazier Tinman, £5. I give and bequeath unto Samuel Christian of Deal aforesaid, Grocer, (brother of the said Henry and Benjamin) £5. I give and bequeath unto Edward Minter Christian, son of Richard Christian of Deal aforesaid, Tailor and Draper, £5. I give and bequeath unto Henry Christian the younger of the city of Cantebury, Veterinary Surgeon (one of my executors hereafter appointed) my Silver tankard and the sum £5. I give and bequeath unto John Pilcher of the City of Cantebury, Law Writer, (one other of my executors hereafter appointed) the sum of £5. I give and bequeath the sum of £5 to be distributed amongst the most deserving of the poor of the Parish of Ickham at the discretion of my executors. I give and bequeath unto Thomas Minter, son of my Nephew William Minter, of the Upper Farm in Ickham aforesaid for his use during his life my dressing case made of beads and after his decease it is my will and desire that said case shall always descend to and be used by the person nearest of him to me bearing the name of Thomas Minter. And as to all my money and securities for money household furniture, pictures, plate, linen, china goods chattels and all other the rest and residue of my personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever subject to the payment of my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses and the legacies herein before given and bequeathed I give and bequeath the same and every part and parcel thereof unto my dear wife Jane Catherine Minter her executors, administrators and assigns absolutely. And whereas my said brother Henry Minter is entitled under or by virtue of the last will and testament of my late father to an annuity or yearly sum of £8 Now I hereby give unto my said brother Henry Minter an annuity or yearly sum of £2 to be issuing and payable out of all and singular my messuages, lands, tenements, hereditements and premises and real estate whatsoever and wheresoever and to be paid at such days and times and in such manner as the said annuity of £8 is payable and the first payment of the said annuity of £2 to begin on the first of these days which shall happen next after my decease and in case the said annuity of £2 shall at anytime be in arrears and unpaid for the space of 21 days then it shall and may be lawful to and for my said brother Henry Minter into and upon the said messuages, lands, tenements, hereditements and premises and real estate or any part and parts thereof to enter and distrain the said annuity of £2 or so much thereof as shall then be arrears or unpaid and after such distress or distresses shall be so taken to appraise sell and dispose of the same in like manner as in distresses taken for rent reserved by lease or common demise to the extent that he may be fully paid the said annuity or yearly sum of £2 and all arrears thereof and all cost and charges attending the same. And as to all and singular my messuages, lands, tenements, hereditements and parts and shares of my messuages, lands, tenements, hereditements and all other my real estate whatsoever and wheresoever (subject and charged with the payment of the said annuity or yearly sum of £2 as aforesaid) I give and devise the same unto and to the use of my said Wife Jane Catherine Minter and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life without impeachment of waste and from and immediately after her decease I give and devise the same unto and to the use of Henry Belsey Minter, John Lushington Minter, William Minter, Nathaniel Lushington Minter and the said Eleanor Lushington Minter the four sons and daughter of my said brother Henry Minter equally to be divided between them share and share alike as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and to their respective heirs and assigns forever provided always and I do hereby declare my will and mind to be that if any or either of them Henry Belsey Minter, John Lushington Minter, William Minter, Nathaniel Lushington Minter and the said Eleanor Lushington Minter shall depart their life during the lifetime of my said wife without leaving lawful issue him her or them surviving that then as well the original share of him her or them so dying as the share or shares which by virtue of this present proviso shall have survived or accrued to him her or them and in my said real estate shall go remain and be to the survives or survivor of them the said Henry Belsey Minter, John Lushington Minter, William Minter, Nathaniel Lushington Minter, and Eleanor Lushington Minter in equal shares to take as tenants in common and not joint tenants and to their his or her heirs and assigns respectively forever. Provided also and I do hereby further declare my will and mind to be that if any or either of them the said Henry Belsey Minter, John Lushington Minter, William Minter, Nathaniel Lushington Minter and Eleanor Lushington Minter shall depart this life during the lifetime of my said wife leaving lawful issue him her or them surviving that then as well the original share of him her or them so dying as the share or shares which under or by virtue of the proviso for that purpose in this my will contained shall have survived or accrued to him her or them as also any share or shares which would or might under such proviso have survived or accrued to him her or them if living of and in my said real estate shall go remain and be to such lawful issue both sons and daughters of him her or them so dying in equal shares to take as tenants in common and not joint tenants unto the heirs and assigns, of such sons and daughters respectively forever it being my will and meaning that the lawful issue both sons and daughters of him her or them so dying shall stake such share and shares and stand in the same situation as the parent would have done if living. I appoint my said wife, Jane Catherine Minter and the said Henry Christian and John Pilcher executrix executors of this my will in witness whereof I the said testator Thomas Minter have to the first two sheets of this my last will and testament (in three sheets of paper contained) set my hand and to this third and last sheet thereof my hand and seal this l4th day of June in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Two.
