    • 1851 census: Robert (19) was a private stationed at The Barracks of Her Majestey's Footguards, Croydon, Surrey. His occupation at the time was journeyman blacksmith (following the trade of his mother's family, the Knotts).

      Per John J Minter, April 2006, Robert was later in the Coldstream Guards and was present at the battles of Alma, Balaclava and Inkerman during the Crimean War. He died of dysentery at Scutari in 1855.
