Notes |
- The extended index of births at the GRO shows Mary's mother's maiden name as WILSON.
According to Cliff Minter, Mary Edith married (against her father's wishes) in 1904. He gives an extract from a 1904 newspaper (name and date not given **) found in Folkestone Library:
Marriage of Mary Edith only daughter of William Vincer Minter of Glenhurst, Clapham Common North Side, SW, granddaughter of the late William Vincer Minter of Winslow, Bucks and great great granddaughter of the late John Hardy Minter of Callis Court Farm, St Peters.
The above marriage hasn't been found in the UK marriage index*. However, the National Archives of South Africa have a record, no. 138/1906. which says 'ILLIQUID CASE. JUDICIAL SEPARATION. MARY EDITH PUNTIS (BORN VINCER-MINTER) VERSUS WALTER ERNEST.'
A second document, ref 55/1906 has 'OPPOSED APPLICATION. ME PUNTIS (BORN VINCER-MINTER) VERSUS WE PUNTIS.'
* The knight family tree at ancestry.com says that Mary married Walter Ernest PUNTIS on March 30, 1904, in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
** In February 2019 an email from Anthony Steven says he found the marriage announcement in the Bucks Herald of 9 April 1904:
"Puntis - Vincer Minter on March 30th at St Cyprians Church, Durban, by the Rev. A J W Crosse, vicar,, Walter Ernest Puntis, Quantity Surveyor, H.M.
