Ancestry.com has a record showing that John got his first commission, as a lieutenant, on 3 September 1910, a British officer with the Indian Army (130 Baluchis).

1911 census: stationed at Ahmidnagar, Deccan, India with the 1st Royal Dublin Fusiliers, John Paul Surtees Minter, 2/lieutenant, age not stated, single, born Karachi, India, on the Unattached List Indian Army.

Appears in the Indian Army List of 1 Jan 1912 as a 2nd lieutenant in the 130th. King George's Own Baluchis [Jacob's Rifles].

Listed in the London Gazette 9 Jan 1917: John Paul Surtees Minter, 130th King George's Own Baluchis (Jacob's Rifles).

The London Gazette of 1 June 1923 carried the following:

1919, in so far as they relate to the relinquishment
of actg. rank by Capt. (actg.
      Maj.) J.P.S.Minter, are cancelled)

No later trace found, except that an entry at ancestry24.com contains a reference to John Paul Surtees Minter in the 'Transvaal Deceased Estates Index 1855 - 1976' so he may have died in South Africa.

Further proof of the above is at the National Archives of South Africa: document ref 5415/73 suggests that JPS Minter died in 1973 and was survived by his spouse Kathleen Mary Minter.

April 2011: email contact from Christopher Minter, JPSM's grandson. Chris has filled in the details of the family, which as suggested above is linked to South Africa.
