1901 census: at 31 Moreton Place, St George Hanover Square, London, William (23, under butler), Ada (25) and Lilian (3).
Aged 38, William joined the Fusiliers on 25 November 1915. He was then a head waiter. (Another record says William was employed by the Turf Club as Club Steward). The original address he gave, 85 Piccadilly, was later crossed out in favour of 51 Hackford Rd. Brixton, SW London. Next of kin Mrs Ada Minter, same address, married on 16 August 1897 at St Georges, Battersea. Two children listed, Constance Alice born 30 June 1907 and Olive Dorothy born 24 August 1909, both at Brixton.
Service no. 266866 or 399340. Originally put on reserve, William was mobilized on 5 September 1916. A memo dated 1 October 1916 says that 'the man in question is required at the Command School of Cookery, Dringhouses as soon as possible'. He was appointed acting Sergeant without pay whilst employed as a mess caterer in 1918. He may have been posted abroad. He was discharged on 11 June 1919.
1921 census: at 51 Hackford Road, Brixton, Lambeth, London (all MINTER), Ada H J (wife, 46, married, born Twyford, Hants, home duties), Constance A (daughter, 13y 11m, born Brixton, London, whole time school) and Olive D (daughter, 11y 9m, born Brixton, London, whole time school).
No mention of William George but his name is signed at the foot of the form.
