11353 «b»November 2015: Dick Moore's Story of Eliza Minter of Palgrave, Suffolk and her Children can be found on the Minter Exchange website.
According to Rod Minter Eliza was baptised a second time on 10 May 1827 in Palgrave. This was confirmed in October 2015 by Dick Moore.

August 2015: Dick Moore writes:
"Eliza at the beginning of her child bearing activities, baptised a DAVID HOWELL 16th November 1850 at Wortham, father given as DAVID HOWELL and mother as ELIZA MENTER.
The second child, ELIZABETH, was baptised as ELIZABETH HOWELL MENTER 29th May 1852 also at Wortham, no father stated, mother recorded as ELIZA MENTER."
Elizabeth is assumed to be she who was born in 1850/51.

1861 census: in Palgrave, Elisa (sic) (unmarried, 33), Elizabest (sic), (10, scholar), Ida (6, scholar), William (4, scholar) and Ellen (2 months). Also a boarder, Francis SADLER (61, unmarried, proprietor of house & fund holder, born Ongar, Essex).

1871 census: at 6 Bridle Lane, Botesdale, Suffolk, all under the name of SADLER, Francis (77, invested money & annuitant), Eliza (43), Ida (16, scholar), William (14, scholar), Leslie (son) (12, scholar), Percival (6, scholar), Ellen (11, scholar), Clifford (4, scholar) and Herbert (2).

Although Eliza was living with Francis Sadler by 1871, and using his surname, there is no indication in the index of marriages that the couple ever married. The births of some of Eliza's children were not registered; those that were, were registered as Minter.

The death of a Francis SADLER, aged 80, was registered at Hartismere in Q3 1872 (4a/324). The England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1858-1966 (at has:
SADLER Francis Effects under £200 20 November. The Will of Francis Sadler formerly of the Long Green Wortham but late of Botesdale both in the county of Suffolk Gentleman who died 31 August 1871 at Botesdale was proved at the Principal Registry by Eliza Minter of Botesdale Spinster the sole Executrix.

1881 census: in Street Rickinghall, Suffolk, under the name of SADLER: Eliza (widow, 54, annuitant), Clifford (14, clerk) and Herbert (12, scholar). Also a 'protege', Ellen P ATWELL (7, scholar, born London).

It's thought that the following census entries refer to Eliza and her daughters Ida and Ellen.
1891 census: in High Road (Mount House), Wheatley, Oxfordshire, Elise SADLER (head, 62, widow, school proprietress, born Sheffield, Yorkshire), Ida SADLER (daughter, 31, single, school proprietress, born Highgate, London and Helen SADLER (daughter, 25, single, school proprietress, born Highgate, London. Also at the property were a governess and a number of pupils, one of whom was Lilian Philippa HOWELL (17, born Holborn, London) - almost certainly 'Ellen P ATWELL' of 1881.
1901 census: in Upper Wick, Sutton Wick, Berkshire, Elise SADLER (head, 73, widow, born Sheffield, Yorkshire), Ida SADLER (daughter, 40, single, principal of girls boarding school, own a/c, at home, born Highgate, London and Helen SADLER (daughter, 34, single, born Highgate, London. Also at the property were a teacher, a number of pupils and a servant, Ellen P ATWELL 26, born Holborn).
1911 census: at 167 Wokingham Road, Reading, Berkshire (10 rooms including attics), Elise SADLER (head, 81, widow, private means, born Sheffield, Yorkshire), Ida Muriel SADLER (daughter, 46, single, born Highgate (London), Helen Montmorency SADLER (daughter, 40, single, born Bristol (Glos) and Clifford Reynolds SADLER (grandson, 11, school, born Matatiele, Cape Colony, Resident. Also a general domestic servant, Ellen Philippa ATTWELL (36, single, born Holborn (London).
Form signed Elise Sadler.

The death registration of Elise Sadler, age 89, Q3 1916 Reading (2c/425) undoubtedly refers to Eliza Minter.

11354 «u»It is only an assumption«/u» that William was Homan's son, based on Wiliam's birth date and the fact that the both lived in Thorp Green in 1841. No birth or baptism has been found for William.

1841 census: in Thorp Green, Thorpe le Soken, William (35, machine man, born Essex), Jemima (35, born Essex) and William (5, born Essex).

1851 census: in Thorp Green, Thorpe le Soken, William (50, machine man & drill man employing 1 man, born Thorp), Jemima (47, born Beaumont, Essex) and William (15, born Thorp).

1861 census: in Beaumont, Essex, William (62, farming bailiff, born Lynn, Norfolk (!)), Jemima (58, born Beaumont, Essex) and William (25, ag lab, born Thorpe le Soken).

1871 census: in School Yard (of National School), Beaumont, Essex, William (71, widower, born Lynn, Norfolk (!)) and a lodger, Charles PULLBORN (23, ag lab, born Beaumont, Essex).

It's not clear why William's birthplace was shown as Lynn, Norfolk in 1861 and 1871. His death was probably that registered in Q4 1875 at Tendring RD, which covered Beaumont.

11355 «u»«b»IMPORTANT NOTE

«/u»«/b»This John Minter appears in the same file as the American Minter group headed by Richard Minter (born England about 1570). However, John and his descendants are not here connected to Richard and his decendants because it isn't clear just how they are connected. The most likely probability is that John was the brother of Richard's descendant Anthony Minter (c. 1685 - 1751) but that hasn't been proved to my satisfaction.

Most of the history of the descendants of this John Minter has been taken from existing sources including:
- MINTER/COBB FAMILIES by John B Minter, at
- Genealogy Research by Samuel Antonio Minter, at
